Local artist Gary Carroll will be putting the final touches on the large outdoor mural he has been painting over the last few weeks on the side of the Rooftop Arts building. The final details and colouring highlights will be added over the next few days to complete the work. It has taken shape really well and has attracted a lot of attention and positive comments.
Numerous people have stopped by to admire the work and Gary, being well known in Corby, has met some old friends he has not seen in a while and renewed these friendships.
Dinah Kazakoff, the Rooftop Arts Gallery Director commented, “art has a way of bringing the community together and Gary’s work is a good example of that, the mural speaks to Corby’s industrial past and has also attracted the attention and admiration of the town’s youth as well”.
At 8ft x 10ft this is one of the largest paintings the artist has done and his work has attracted 3 potential commissions from local business owners who would like to discuss similar size works at their businesses.
If you would like to see the final stages of his work, Gary will be outside completing his painting during the Rooftop Arts open hours from 11am to 4pm.

The New Mural is Taking Shape
Gary Carroll, the artist behind the new Mural being created on the side of the Rooftop Arts Centre, is starting to add colour to the artwork. The mono tones of the base layer of the mural have started to come alive with the addition of some colour aspects. This is a major work of art that Gary has been working on for over a week now, and he has started to add colour onto the piece to bring it to life.
He estimates it will take about another week to complete the work, and each day the changes becomes more and more noticeable. He has had a great deal of visitors stopping by to admire his work in progress. Between this and his regular work as a Tattoo Artist, weather permitting, he will be out every day next week to put the finishing touches on the art work.
Please feel free to stop by and say hello.

Have You Seen Our New Mural Yet ?
Local artist Gary Carroll is in the process of painting a very large mural on the side of the Rooftop Arts Centre at 27 New Post Office Sq. in Corby. The large scale art work is being drawn by hand, in acrylic paint and measures some 8 x10 feet high.
He has been working on the piece for the last few days which is now starting to take shape and become more recognizable every day. His work has caught the attention of many people passing by who have stopped to admire the work, speak to the artist, and to keep him supplied with cups of hot coffee in the cooler weather we have experienced this week. The mural is loosely based on Corby’s industrial past with some modern influences.
Gary expects the work to take around 7 more days to complete and will form part of the permanent collection of the Rooftop Art Centre. It will be seen by hundreds of people passing by each day on their way to and from Corby Town Centre. Why not take some time to pass by and meet the artist next time in Corby.
About the Artist
Gary Carroll was born in London and moved to Corby at an early age, and found his interest in art in his twenties and carried on creating for nearly 30 years. He is currently training to be a tattooist in Corby.
