About the Exhibition
Rooftop Arts Centre is delighted to present “Tangled Up In Blue”, a solo exhibition by our resident artist, Martin Baldock. This collection showcases a blend of entirely new pieces and revisited works that reflect the artist’s ongoing creative journey.
Musical Inspiration
The core of Martin’s work is deeply connected to the music that has accompanied him from his teenage years to the present day. Often, a specific title or a poignant line from a song provides the necessary spark to begin a new canvas or resolve an unfinished piece that has been set aside.
Intuitive Abstraction
While Martin admires figurative art, his personal focus lies in the evocative power of colour, texture, line, and form. He describes his style as “Intuitive Abstraction,” aiming to move beyond literal representation to prompt a unique, personal response from every viewer.

Meet the Artist: Martin Baldock
Martin Baldock is a multi-disciplinary artist, musician, and writer based in Studio 3 at Rooftop Arts. He also serves as a Trustee for the charity, contributing significantly to the local arts community.
Born in Kent in 1948, Martin’s work is informed by a “rebellious spirit” and a wide array of influences, including Rembrandt, Picasso, Duchamp, and Pollock. Beyond the canvas, he is an active musician and poet, frequently blending these mediums in his creative practice.
