Step into the colourful and extraordinary world of Frida Kahlo and spend an afternoon exploring one of the most recognisable artists of the 20th century.
Join us at Rooftop Arts for a fun and creative workshop inspired by Frida’s distinctive portraits, vibrant colours, Mexican heritage and fascinating use of symbolism.
Throughout the afternoon, you’ll be encouraged to draw, sketch and paint Frida, exploring her instantly recognisable features and experimenting with flowers, foliage, animals, pattern and symbolism to create your own unique artwork.
You don’t need to be an experienced artist – this workshop is suitable for all levels, including complete beginners. Whether you love drawing, enjoy painting, or simply fancy trying something completely different, you’ll be guided through the process step by step in a relaxed and friendly environment.
And because no Frida-inspired afternoon would be complete without a little Mexican flavour, we’ll also enjoy a light Mexican-inspired lunch together!

What happens when you stop thinking of words simply as something to read, and start seeing them as lines, shapes, patterns and visual forms?
In this fun and inspiring 3-hour workshop, you’ll explore the creative possibilities of typography and discover how letters and words can become the starting point for an artwork of their own.
Through a series of playful, accessible exercises, you’ll experiment with scale, composition, colour and mark-making, transforming familiar letters and words into bold visual compositions.

Ever wanted to capture human expression through bold marks, vibrant color, and dynamic mixed media?
Join us for an inspiring three-day portrait drawing masterclass at Rooftop Arts, led by Professional Artist and Tutor Fanoulla Georgiou.
This course offers an immersive introduction to contemporary portraiture for artists of all levels.
Known for her creative use of found materials, mixed media and her bold, emotive style, Fanoulla will guide you through three structured workshops, each building essential skills in drawing, mixed media, and capturing a portraits essence.
Day 1: Introduction to Contemporary Realism.
You’ll explore the foundations of contemporary realism, developing your own style through Fanoulla’s expressive approach. Learn to use key tools, including brushes, palette knives, and paints, focusing on bold mark-making and varied paint application techniques to create dynamic textures.
Day 2: Introduction to Portraits and Faces.
Focusing on observing and processing facial features, you’ll learn to sense and feel the emotional nuances that bring portraits to life.
Day 3: Exploring Colour and Texture in Portraits
You’ll explore colour theory and texture, learning to select limited palettes that evoke mood and energy, inspired by Fanoulla’s vibrant style. Experiment with techniques to achieve uniqueness through abstract mark-making, blending realism with expressive flourishes to capture a portraits essence.
The 3 day package includes all materials and tuition, alongside a light buffet lunch during each session. Complimentary refreshments, including tea, coffee, and snacks, are available throughout the day.
By the end of the course, you’ll have created your own expressive contemporary portrait, gained confidence in drawing and painting the human face, and discovered techniques you can continue to use in your own artistic practice.
